Name: Arthur Oskan Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
For nearly fifteen years, renowned producer Arthur Oskan has been laying down roots in Toronto's electronic music community. After acquainting himself with the city's budding underground collectives in the early nineties, he began releasing cassettes recorded live in his studio under the name "Auracle". His early works caught the attention of local promoters, and armed with his studio as a nucleus, he made the transition to performing live at various events, where he showcased his own brand of lush, complex, atmospheric techno. During this period, his style evolved, incorporating a more aggressive edge to his signature sound. By 1996, Arthur had firmly established a reputation for crafting dense, soulful, synth-driven live sets alongside such noted DJ's as Murat, Mistress Barbara, Mike Clark, Kikoman, Yaz, Adam Jay, Ben Neil, and Huren.
After a hiatus of almost 5 years, Arthur Oskan resurfaced in Toronto's electronic dance music scene in 2001, demonstrating his live PA prowess at Fukhouse and Mono events. Charted releases with Greg Gow on his Restructured imprint solidified his presence in local area clubs, including the infamous System Soundbar, and it was not long before the LA-based Droid Behavior took notice and featured him at Circus Nightclub in Hollywood. Heavy Industries' Steve Eagle was at the club and was immediately drawn to the sound, and soon after Arthur was part of the H.I. crew with the EP "Immunity." The track "Pacemaker" from this EP is also featured on the netlabel mix that is currently shipping with Native Instruments' Traktor 3.0 software.
In May 2005, a Live PA at a Detroit Electronic Music Festival afterparty brought him to the ears of Cratesavers Muzik - a joint label between Detroit Techno legends Trackmaster Lou of Scan 7, and BJ "Posatronix" (former member of the legendary group AUX 88). After much negotiation, he signed a multi-year deal with the duo, sparking a new chapter in his career. |
